Natural American Foods Partners With Fair Trade USA on Responsibly Sourced Honey
ONSTED, Michigan, December 1, 2015 — Natural American Foods, a leading processor of honey in the United States, announces today that it will offer Fair Trade Certified™ honey beginning in early 2016. The certification, obtained through Fair Trade USA, ensures that farmers and beekeepers are paid a fair price for their honey harvest, which in turn allows them to remain a sustainable part of their community for many years to come.
According to Rolf Richter, CEO for Natural American Foods, the decision to offer Fair Trade Certified honey was straightforward. “The drive for greater transparency in the food supply by consumers is well documented. At Natural American Foods, we’ve made significant investments in our global sourcing capabilities as well growing our knowledge of consumer insights and behavior in the honey category. Fair Trade Certified honey is a natural evolution of both of these investments, and provides a unique offering for our retail customers to expand their business.”
“Our initial offering of Fair Trade honey comes from hives located in the Amhara region of Ethiopia, which has a rich tradition of beekeeping that dates back to 3000B.C.” said Chris Nubern, Vice President of Procurement at Natural American Foods. “This honey is very dark in color and has a delightfully intense floral flavor that pairs well with cornbread and walnuts.”
The Fair Trade Certified honey from Natural American Foods will be available for sale in cases of 12oz bottles starting in January 2016.
